A PureHoney Hollow-Daze Office Party
If you’ve ever worked in an office, you know that most holiday office parties are about as appealing as the boss’s birthday celebration, with the toxic sheet cake in the break room, and the unenthusiastic, off-key singing, and the self-deprecating jokes about being another year older. Office Christmas parties may be an even worse form of mandatory revelry, because there’s still the off-key singing, only this time there’s a lame gift exchange and alcohol involved. As a result, there will doubtlessly be at least one person doing something embarrassing with a candy cane or a Santa hat that will turn up on Facebook and then come frighteningly to mind every time you see that person in a prim pantsuit near the water cooler.
Luckily, this (dare we say) wonderful zine you’re holding in your hand doesn’t have an office, just the home computer of founder/publisher Steev Rullman. For us here at PureHoney, an “office party” is just an excuse to get a few great bands together on an awesome stage, along with the publication’s top writers, artists, advertisers, distributors and sponsors. Thus, we’re treating you to the third annual PureHoney Hollow-Daze Office Party on Dec. 13 at Propaganda, a free opportunity to mingle with the team that makes this zine happen and possibly take home some comp party favours.
Mostly however, it’s a chance to showcase a few of our favorite local acts under the same roof. The lineup features throwback shoegazers Sweet Bronco, supporting its wonderful soon-to-be-released album “Morning Night,” which sounds like a forgotten Creation Records release from 1984; Symbols, a skittish, atmospheric witch-house/trap outfit; Whorish Boorish, Miamian Rebecca Lima’s vintage garage-psych project; and Boxwood, Jose Ferrer’s ridiculously lush, experimental, shoegazey yet hooky one-man-looping sound vehicle.
PureHoney has worked hard to support these bands, so we thought the best holiday gift exchange would be for them to share their feelings about PH. According to Lima, PureHoney is “a significant bastion of resources with pure passion for local and not-so-local artistry, whatever medium it may be. They know… cool.” Chris Horgan, of Sweet Bronco, added, “PureHoney is a huge lover of bands, and it shows. No one (arguably-ed) has displayed more persistence in the mission of sharing great music with the community for such a long period of time.”
Aww… don’t you want to just snuggle up with some spiked eggnog and kick-ass indie rock now?
It all goes down Dec. 13 at Propaganda, 6 South J Street, Lake Worth, starting at 10pm For information, call 561-547-7273. | RSVP
