Dark Water Rebellion

dwrcatIf you haven’t had the thrill of experiencing a live show by Dark Water Rebellion yet, you’ll have to act fast. Come January, they’ll be living out the ultimate rock & roll fantasy — piling into a tour bus and traveling cross-country, picking up gigs along the way, culminating in their appearance at the Stork Club in Oakland, California on February 5th. The band will then make their way down the California coast, to the Los Angeles area, where they will settle in for the months ahead.

While on the road, the band’s home will be their recently-acquired converted 1984 Greyhound bus, which is currently being renovated and customized, inside and out. When completed, the bus will sleep 6 comfortably, and feature a full galley & bathroom, with plenty of cargo space to stow all of their gear below.

Songwriter, vocalist and guitarist Brent Gorcie, bassist Fabian Abarca, and guitarist, banjo & harmonica player Nick Smith first met socially in Venice Beach, California in 2013, on the rooftop deck of an artist-colony-type apartment building they all lived in, but they never collaborated musically at the time. After the three had a chance reunion in Florida, they joined forces with veteran Delray Beach-based drummer Danielle Romanowski (formerly of The Psymatics and Slip & the Spinouts), to form Dark Water Rebellion.

dwrbusGorcie began writing their music 10 years ago, recording much of it over the years with various musicians in California, New York and Florida, under the name “Dark Waters”. The original recordings had a haunting goth-industrial electronic sound. Together, Gorcie and Romanowski have written new arrangements of his original music to fit the band’s vision of creating a soulful, high-energy dark-Americana vibe. The band has released an impressive 6-song EP, but the magic really happens at their live shows. Gorcie’s raw, impassioned vocals fill the room — part Tom Waits, part Jim Morrison, while southern-folk music explodes around you.

Catch ’em while you can. Until mid-January, Dark Water Rebellion will be lining up as many local shows as possible to perfect their unique sound before embarking on their California adventure.
